These two reviews appeared in the Rockefeller University newspaper as part of the fiftieth anniversary of the 1944 article by Avery, MacLeod and McCarty. The books reviews, by Rene Dubos and Maclyn McCarty, deal directly with the work conducted in Avery's lab in the 1920's through his retirement in 1948, including the 1944 discovery that DNA is genetic material. Only the text has been reproduced.
