WACO, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that residents in two additional Texas counties are now eligible for individual assistance to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from the effects of severe storms, flooding and tornadoes beginning June 16.

Assistance is now available in Bee and Medina counties. These join 25 counties for which Individual Assistance has been previously declared:

Coryell
Denton
Eastland
Grayson

Tarrant
Travis
Victoria

"As flooding continues in Texas we are examining and evaluating new damages," said Federal Coordinating Officer Kenneth Clark. "This declaration means individuals in these two counties can get help from FEMA. Residents with damage should register for assistance as soon as possible."

Individual Assistance can provide grants to pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration may also be available to help renters, homeowners and businesses recover from losses not fully compensated by insurance.

"With ongoing flooding, it is important to ensure all affected Texas residents get the aid they need," said Joan Haun, state coordinating officer. "The state requested these counties be added to the Presidential declaration and we are pleased that our federal partners have agreed to provide assistance in these additional counties."

With these two counties, 27 Texas counties are now eligible for individual assistance. Residents of all 27 counties who sustained damages should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for individuals with speech or hearing impairment. Registration is also available online at www.fema.gov.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
