How does NDBC receive and process observations from other data providers?

The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) has a way for you to send your observations to us via the Internet. Some work is required on your part, but your observations will gain much greater public visibility. There are many other reasons why you should consider doing this. NDBC is interested in most meteorological and physical oceanographic measurements which are collected in real-time.

NDBC can give you a C-language software kit. You can modify this software to read measurements from your own file and output a message that looks like one of ours. Then, you can send the messages to NDBC for evaluation. If all the data look acceptable, you can write a script to automatically send us the observations at regular intervals. Click here for more information about this process.

Your first step is to contact NDBC and provide them some information about your stations.

Thank you for your consideration.
