NDBC Web Site News and Events Archive

2007

2006

  • December - DART buoy network expanded - NDBC deployed six more DART buoys in the Pacific. This brings the total number of DART water level measuring stations in the NOAA tsunami reporting network to 25.

  • November - Surface current vectors for coastal areas available from an interactive national map! NDBC is hosting a demonstration HF Radar web site for this NOAA/IOOS partnership project.

  • October - New network! Added coastal weather stations on a new map for southeast Alaska inside waters. The stations are operated by the National Weather Service Alaska Region.

  • September - A new NDBC station, 46070, was deployed in the southwest Bering Sea.

  • August - DART buoy network expanded - NDBC deployed four more DART buoys in the Pacific. This brings the total number of DART water level measuring stations in the NOAA tsunami reporting network to 19.

  • June - Dial-A-Buoy failed on June 26th. The NDBC Dial-A_Buoy system hardware (circa 1995) failed and most likely cannot be rebuilt (the vendor has been out of business for quite some time). A replacement system is in the works, however, an implementation date has not been established. The date will be posted here when it is known and an announcement banner will be displayed when it is operational.

  • June - New network! Added stations from the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) network to the western Great Lakes map. GLOS is operated by the National Weather Service Central Region.

  • June - Added a Hurricane Data Collection and Plots index page providing links to a variety of plots, summaries, and data reports of wind speed parameters, sea-level pressure, and wave parameters from selected NDBC stations in the vicinity of recent hurricane tracks.

  • June - New data provider! Added a station, TIBC1, from the San Francisco State University SF-BEAMS program.

  • May - A new station, PLSF1, was deployed at Pulaski Shoal Light in the Dry Tortugas, providing a replacement for hurricane destroyed station DRYF1.

  • April - DART Atlantic Expansion - NDBC expanded the tsunami reporting network into the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. Five new buoys, stations 41420, 41421, 41424, 42407, and 42408, were deployed, bringing the total number of DART water level measuring stations to 15.

  • January - Added a Hurricane Wilma quick look page providing a summary of some of the wind speed parameters, sea-level pressure, and wave parameter reports from NDBC stations in the vicinity of the hurricane's track.

  • January - Added a Hurricane Rita quick look page providing a summary of some of the wind speed parameters, sea-level pressure, and wave parameter reports from NDBC stations in the vicinity of the hurricane's track.

2005

  • October - Added a Hurricane Katrina quick look page providing a summary of some of the wind speed parameters, sea-level pressure, and wave parameter reports from NDBC stations in the vicinity of the hurricane's track.

  • September - Three new buoys, stations 46409, 46411, and 46412, were deployed, bringing the total number of DART water level measuring stations to ten.

  • August - In a partnership with the University of North Carolina, a new buoy, Station 41035, Onslow Bay, NC, measuring water temperature and surface current was deployed.

  • June - A new buoy, Station 51407, was deployed, providing water level measurements for the DART program.

  • June - A new buoy, Station 42058, Central Caribbean, was deployed, providing new hurricane wind and pressure measurements.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 41040, West Atlantic, was deployed, providing new hurricane wind and pressure measurements.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 41041, Middle Atlantic, was deployed, providing new hurricane wind and pressure measurements.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 42057, Western Caribbean, was deployed, providing new hurricane wind and pressure measurements.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 46073, was deployed in the Southeast Bering Sea.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 42055, Bay of Campeche, was deployed, providing new hurricane wind and pressure measurements.

  • May - A new buoy, Station 42056, Yucatan Channel, was deployed. The buoy provides new measurements in support of hurricane tracking and include the highest 1-minute average wind speed and the lowest pressure for the hour.

  • April - Implemented a new web page to display ocean current profile measurements from Gulf of Mexico oil platforms, in cooperation with the Minerals Management Service.

2004

2003

  • December - A new buoy, Station 46069, South Santa Rosa Island, CA, was deployed.

  • November - A new buoy, Station 41013, Frying Pan Shoals, NC Buoy was deployed.

  • November - A new buoy, Station 46086, San Clemente Basin, was deployed.

  • October - Observations from Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) have been added to this site. See our Western Gulf of Mexico Region Map, for LUMCON stations.

  • October - A new station, Station SGOF1, Tyndall AFB Tower C (N4), FL, was established. This station will replace Station CSBF1, Cape San Blas, FL.

  • September - A new buoy, Station 46081, Western Prince William Sound, was deployed.

  • September - University of Connecticut, MYSound observations from Long Island Sound, were added.
