NERC - North American Electric Reliability Corporation

Our mission is to ensure the reliability of the bulk power system in North America. To achieve that, we develop and enforce reliability standards; assess reliability annually via 10-year and seasonal forecasts; monitor the bulk power system; and educate, train, and certify industry personnel. NERC is a self-regulatory organization, subject to oversight by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and governmental authorities in Canada.

In its 2008 Annual Report released at the organization’s Board of Trustees meeting in Arlington, VA today, NERC highlighted many accomplishments and key findings from this critical year of growth. The report covers each of NERC's program areas: Standards, Compliance & Enforcement, Situation Awareness and Critical Infrastructure Protection, Assessments, Event Analysis and Information Exchange, Reliability Benchmarking, and System Operator Certification and Continuing Education.
