Commissioner Kelly's statement on Broadwater Energy, LLC
- Today's order helps to ensure a much-needed, new source of reliable, long-term, and competitively-priced natural gas to the Long Island, New York City, and Connecticut markets.
- Staff has taken this proposed project as seriously as have the citizens of New York and Connecticut, and has done so with the highest degree of professionalism. Among other things, they held countless public meetings, analyzed thousands of comments, and participated in numerous consultations with coordinating agencies. In short, they left no stone unturned in their studies and analyses of the potential environmental and safety impacts of the Broadwater proposal. They listened carefully and openly to the many comments and suggestions from thousands of individuals and entities, and their analysis of them resulted in many recommendations for changes and conditions, which we have adopted.
- I extend my gratitude to staff for its extraordinary efforts over the last few years. Based on what they heard, read, and analyzed, staff produced a comprehensive final EIS of which they should be proud.
- Of course, staff's efforts are business as usual. Nevertheless, I extend my deep appreciation to the team for a job well done. With that, I support this order.
