Jabber XCP

Jabber XCP is an internal instant messaging service. It is based on an “open-source” product that is compatible with many Unix- and Linux-based instant messaging programs, as well as Windows, and Mac customers can use it together with iChat. You can use Jabber on your desktop, or you can start a chat using the Web version on your browser. Jabber uses the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP). Please note that Jabber XCP is in “pilot” status.

 

Installing Jabber

Jabber Instant Messaging – installs the main Jabber service. (Note that this software may autodiscover its connection; if not, please use host=nihimjabber.nih.gov and port=5222.

The following is an optional service that you can install after you have installed Jabber:

  • Jabber Web Service – allows you to access Jabber from a Web browser.

After you have installed Jabber, you must log on using the format of yourNIHusername@im.nih.gov and your normal NIH password.
