WAVERLY, Iowa -- Residents and former residents of Waverly will have an opportunity to share their ideas about the future of Waverly at a Community Open House.

The event, called Moving Forward, will be held at the Waverly Civic Center, 200 First Street NE, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. November 22, 2008. The Open House is being held in partnership with the City of Waverly, the Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO), and FEMA's Long-Term Community Recovery (LTCR) Team.

Issues, needs and opportunities that were expressed at the first Community Open House in October will be highlighted and discussions will continue at three (3) topic-specific "stations": Reporting Back, Waverly Looking Forward, and Guidance for Your Community Leadership. The stations will provide information to the community on recovery topics that can help shape the future of Waverly and address the community's concerns about flood protection, economic stability and housing options. The community will also be given the opportunity to comment on recovery projects that have been identified and to participate in identifying the next steps to articulating and achieving Waverly's community vision after this disaster.

Waverly suffered damage to housing and infrastructure as well as severe damage to its economy by the floods that started June 10, 2008. Downtown Waverly, including the entire Main Street area, City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce as well as several residential neighborhoods, were also damaged by flood waters.

"This is the time for Waverly residents, both past and present, to form the community's future," said Tina Potthoff, communications director for the Rebuild Iowa Office.  "The ideas and comments brought forth at this meeting will help influence what happens in the months and years ahead as rebuilding efforts continue."

Representatives of the City of Waverly, the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO), professionals from FEMA's Long-Term Community Recovery (LTCR) branch as well as members of other FEMA program areas will be on hand to answer questions.
