LOS ALAMOS, N.M., July 22, 2005 — A public presentation about snakes will be held at Los Alamos National Laboratory's Bradbury Science Museum at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday (July 26) and again on Aug. 4.

Snake enthusiast Tom Wyant of Los Alamos' Network Engineering Group is scheduled to give the talk. A longtime New Mexico resident, Wyant will display several live reptiles and discuss snakes in general, with a particular emphasis on the types indigenous to this area. A focus will be placed on learning what danger snakes represent and learning how to tell the dangerous snakes apart from their harmless cousins.

The audience will learn about the snake's natural environment and snake safety. Live specimens to be presented to the audience for observation include the non-venomous and common garter snake.

The talk is part of the museum's annual Summer Adventures in Science program geared towards bringing science to the community. The second scheduled talk by Wyant also begins at 6:30 p.m.

There is no cost but no one under the age of 5 will be permitted to attend. Seating is limited. Museum doors open at 6 p.m for the talk.

The museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue downtown. Museum hours, apart from special events, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday and Monday.

For more information call Pat Berger of the museum at 665-0896. The Bradbury Science Museum is part of Los Alamos' Public Affairs Office.
