Building a better future for our courts NCSC Annual Report 2008

The NCSC releases its annual report for 2008 detailing the Center's achievements and future aspirations in the areas of court funding, technology, public trust, access, judicial independence and accountability, high-performance courts and more.

  • The NCSC and many justice and health agencies share state court pandemic/public health plans as well as online videos and guides about the importance of pandemic influenza preparedness.

  • Institute for Court Management faculty will convene the Court Management Program Concluding Seminar in partnership with MACM May 4-8 in Ramsey, Minn. Faculty will also teach Managing Human Resources May 5-7 in Phoenix, Ariz., through a partnership with the Arizona AOC.

  • NCSC Court Consulting Services staff will attend the Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness meeting May 6-9 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • NCSC President Mary McQueen and the Honorable Margaret H. Marshall, president of the Conference of Chief Justices, will be among the participants at the ABA’s Justice as the Business of Government summit in Charlotte, N.C., May 7-9.
  • NCSC will release the results of a public opinion poll, Separate Branches, Shared Responsibilities: A National Survey of Public Expectations on Solving Justice Issues, on May 8.

E-filing, exchange standards open to review

The Joint Technology Committee (JTC) of the Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA) and the National Association for Court Management (NACM) seeks review and comment on proposed standards for electronic filing and information exchange by May 15. Details (pdf)

Study: Huge growth in probation/parole

The NCSC’s Center for Sentencing Initiatives was one of the survey partners contributing to a new report from the Pew Charitable Trusts showing that one in 31 U.S. adults are behind bars, on parole or on probation.
