 Introduction

The National Profile section contains figures showing trends and the distribution of nationally reportable sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and chancroid) by age, sex, race/ethnicity, and location for the United States. Where relevant, the figures illustrate progress towards specific Healthy People 2010 targets* for the nation.1

* See the Appendix for a listing of the Healthy People 2010 objectives for the diseases addressed in this report.
