VENTS Geographic Information System (GIS)

Geographic information systems let us see the world, and everything in it, with new eyes. -- ESRI

What is a GIS?

GIS is powerful computer software for managing all sorts of information according to precise geographical location. A GIS allows you to view this information as a map.

In addition to its great mapping capabilities, GIS has also revolutionized data integration, display, and management in a wide range of scientific fields. The VENTS group at NOAA-PMEL in Newport is pleased to present the capability of linking a GIS to this web page. You will be dealing interactively with ArcView, the extremely, powerful interface to the Arc/Info GIS.
