The Gorda Ridge has been an active spreading ridge with three SOSUS-detected seismic events:

• 1996 Gorda Ridge Eruption
• 1998 Gorda Flank Event
• April 2001 seismic event

The T-phase swarm in February/March 1996 lead to the emission of Event Plumes and the eruption of a new lava flow onto the seafloor.
