Dengue Vaccine?

  • No licensed vaccine at present
  • Effective vaccine must be tetravalent
  • Field testing of an attenuated tetravalent vaccine currently underway
  • Effective, safe and affordable vaccine will not be available in the immediate future
There is now no licensed dengue vaccine available. An effective vaccine must be tetravalent, providing protection against all four serotypes, because pre-existing heterotypic dengue antibody is a risk factor for DHF. Field testing of an attenuated tetravalent vaccine in currently occurring in Thailand. However, an effective, safe and affordable vaccine is not likely to be available in the immediate future.
