Molecular Biology Unit
The major role of the Molecular Biology Unit is to develop expression constructs and to generate all research and production clones. These expression constructs and production clones become the foundation of future candidate antigens. An additional critical role of the unit is the detailed characterization, documentation, and curation of all constructs and expression clones.
Both blood-stage and mosquito-stage transmission-blocking vaccines have been identified as potential strategies for the control of malaria. To evaluate vaccine candidates, the Molecular Biology Unit uses recombinant DNA technologies and expression systems to produce recombinant malaria proteins in support of the preclinical and clinical development pathways of MVDB.
