Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Malaria Vaccine Development Branch
Overview
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Process Development and Antigen Discovery Section of the Malaria Vaccine Development Branch, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The primary study area will be Plasmodium falciparum merozoites for malaria vaccine development. This position will focus on the identification and recombinant production of novel P. falciparum vaccine candidates for intervention of merozoite invasion of human erythrocytes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify novel P. falciparum proteins of vaccine interest using purified merozoites and proteomics
- Design and develop recombinant protein production strategies for select P. falciparum proteins
- Protein characterization and trouble shooting
- Participate in the malarial vaccine product development effort
- Keep current with literature, publish work as appropriate, and present data to scientific communities
Position Requirements
- PhD; molecular biology, biochemistry or other appropriate field
- In depth training in immunology and/or parasitology
- Knowledge of malariology desirable, but not essential
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Exercising sound judgment in setting priorities with a strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills
