Project Number 9
Date of Summary December 31, 1985
Subject Ultrasonic Flowmeter Evaluation
Performing Activity Harry Diamond Laboratories
Principal Investigator Mr. Allen Holmes
Contracting Agency U.S. Geological Survey
Completion Complete
Description Evaluated the ability of four designs of ultrasonic flowmeters to detect leaks in pipelines. Calibrated the meters at the Exxon clean crude facility at Baytown, Louisiana and then at the raw crude terminal at Grand Isle, Louisiana.
Progress Complete. Baytown tests were completed on two manufacturer's meters. One meter detected a 2 percent leak on merchantable crude oil, the other 5 percent. Tests on raw crude will not be run because of disappointing results with clean crude.
