BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE ORGANIZATION (BMDO)

        The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) reports to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.  BMDO is responsible for managing and directing DoD's Ballistic Missile Defense acquisition programs, which include theater missile defense and a national missile defense for the United States. BMDO also is responsible for the continuing research and development of follow-on technologies that are relevant for long-term ballistic missile defense.  These programs will build a technical foundation for evolutionary growth in future ballistic missile defenses.   In developing these acquisition and technology programs, BMDO utilizes the services of the Military Departments, the Department of Energy, private industries, and educational and research institutions.
