ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE
(LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS) (ASD(LA))
Under the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense, the ASD(LA) is the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for DoD relations with the members of Congress. The ASD(LA) is responsible for the following functional areas:
l DoD legislative program coordination.
l Congressional liaison, including arrangements for witnesses and testimony at Congressional hearings.
l Congressional inquiries.
l DoD support of Congressional travel.
l Security clearances for members of Congressional staffs.
l Control and oversight of the limitations placed on DoD legislative affairs by Congress.
