Public Health Injury Surveillance and Prevention Program
Program Components
The program will fund the following four components:
- Part A - the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control (ICIPC) Program
- Part B - the Traumatic Brain Injury Extended Surveillance (TBIES) Program
- Part C – the Traumatic Brain Injury Emergency Department (TBIED) Surveillance Program
- Part D – the Traumatic Brain Injury Service Linkage (TBISL) Program
All states/territories must qualify and be recommended for funding for Part A (ICIPC) to be eligible for Part B (TBIES), Part C (TBIED), or Part D (TBISL).
Part A - the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control (ICIPC) Program
This component supports the planning, implementation and integration of comprehensive injury prevention and control activities with basic injury surveillance. The recipients of Part A funding are responsible for conducting all of the activities described below.
- Building a solid infrastructure for injury prevention and control
- Collecting, analyzing and using injury data
- Implementing and evaluating interventions
- States/territories funded under this cooperative agreement must send representation to the annual CDC-sponsored grantees meeting
Part B - the Traumatic Brain Injury Extended Surveillance (TBIES) Program
The recipients of Part B funding will be responsible for conducting all of the activities of Part A, and the activities described below.
- Traumatic brain injury basic electronic surveillance
- Traumatic brain injury extended medical record surveillance
- Data collection analysis and reporting
Part C - the Traumatic Brain Injury Emergency Department (TBIED) Surveillance Program
The recipients of Part C funding will be responsible for conducting all of the activities of Part A, and the activities described below.
- Emergency department traumatic brain injury basic electronic surveillance
- Emergency department traumatic brain injury extended medical record surveillance
- Data collection analysis and reporting
Part D - the Traumatic Brain Injury Service Link(age) (TBISL) Program
The recipients of Part D funding will be responsible for conducting all of the activities of Part A, and the activities described below.
- Feasibility assessment
- Implementing proposed (linkage) activity(ies)
- Disseminating summary findings, lessons learned and recommendations for future activities
