Shipboard Communication


Bulletin Boards: The XO's Plan of the Day (POD) and all official information are posted on the bulletin board next to the ship's store on E-deck. News, EEO material, weather information, and the operational Plan of the Day (POD) are posted on bulletin boards found in the Oceanographic Lab.
Mail: A letter drop is located on F-deck next to the ship's office. The ship sends mail ashore at every reasonable opportunity. Mail for shipboard personnel should be addressed to:

INMARSAT: A pay telephone is located in the library. With it you can make a collect, credit card or calling card call. Rates vary throughout the day and average $8.50 per minute.
MARS: The ship is a member of the Military Affiliate Radio Station (MARS) network. Usually once or twice per week, using one of our single side band radios, a shore station is contacted and calls are placed. All calls are collect, there are not other options.
Electronic Mail: Internet, Banyan & JFT e-mail capabilities are provided for official business only. Limited Internet capabilities are provided at cost for personal correspondence.
