The Yellow Ribbon Fund

The Yellow Ribbon Fund was created in early 2005 to assist our injured service members and their families while they recuperate at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. Our mission began when the father of an injured Marine introduced two of our volunteers to staff at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval and they told us what needs were not met by other donors.

In almost four years contributions made through the Yellow Ribbon Fund have provided the following for injured service members and their families: 900 free rental cars: over 11,000 free taxi rides; over 4,000 free hotel room nights; and 38 families have used our five apartments for almost 4,000 nights; and hundreds of free tickets to sporting games, concerts and plays, and hundreds of lunches, dinners, golf games, duck and goose hunts, fishing trips, and other activities.

Fundraising in an Eye-catching Way!

This year's new face of St. Pauli Girl beer, Katarina Van Derham, has decided to wear the Wrist Strong bracelet in honor of Stephen Colbert and the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Crown Imports will make a donation to the Yellow Ribbon Fund every time the poster of Van Derham wearing the Wrist Strong Bracelet is downloaded through May 13th. Just go to http://www.stpauligirl.com/home.php, download the poster for free, and help support the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

Plan Now For July 6 YRF/Army Navy Golf Tournament!

The 2nd Annual Yellow Ribbon Fund/Army Navy Golf Classic for Injured Service Members will be played on Monday, July 6 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. Last year, we hosted more than 25 foursomes, each with an injured service member playing along. It was a great day of golf and camaraderie. This year's tournament will include a pre-tournament lunch, golf, a post-tournament dinner, awards, and a silent and live auction.

Foursomes and sponsorships are still available, but going fast. Click here for more information or contact Mark Robbins at 240-223-1180 or mark@yellowribbonfund.org.

Caring for the Caregiver

The Yellow Ribbon Fund has started a new and much-needed initiative: a Family Caregiver Program. This program is directed at the spouses, mothers and other family members who spend months and even years as an essential participant in their loved one's recovery from injuries sustained in the war on terror. Our aim is to assure that this population receives recognition, support and even TLC that they earn on a daily basis. Click on this link to learn more.
