Pediatric and Adult Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) with IGF-1R Amplification
June 2009
Bethesda, MD, United States

Description
The first goal of the meeting is to bring together experts in sarcoma pathology, pediatric and adult oncologists with an interest in sarcomas, and translational medicine scientists to update the current status of the molecular and clinical characterization of the group of GIST patients with wild type c-Kit and PDGFRα receptor genes.  The second goal of the meeting will be to address the potential role for an emerging class of cancer therapeutics directed at the IGF-1R receptor in the treatment of this select subset of GIST patients (e.g. wild type c-Kit and PDGFRα and IGF-1R amplification).  The third goal of the meeting is to discuss translational studies that could be incorporated into trials of IGF-1R inhibitors. The fourth goal of the meeting is to engage with the pediatric oncology community and the GIST research support and activist groups to discuss the potential of organizing a clinical trial of IGF-1R inhibitor(s) in patients with GIST tumors that have been molecularly characterized and have IGF-1R amplification and/or overexpression.
