The Department of Defense (DoD) is undertaking an initiative designed to modernize and streamline media operations by consolidating military Service and DoD media components into a single, integrated and transformed organization, the Defense Media Activity (DMA).  This will enable the Department to synchronize the utilization of its world-wide media assets in a manner that provides a more efficient, timely, responsive and comprehensive distribution of information products and services to the DoD family and the public through both traditional and emerging media technologies.  And, to comply with the requirements of the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission report, the Department is also relocating components of the DMA from Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and San Antonio, TX, to a new facility being constructed at Fort Meade, MD.

These complementary initiatives present a unique opportunity to establish a world-class media enterprise, headquartered in a new, state-of-the-art multi-media technical facility with a professional workforce that is fully equipped and empowered to meet the ever-changing needs of its audience.

In transitioning to the new organization, the DMA leadership is committed to focusing on the following principles:
  • Establish and Sustain a World-Class Media Enterprise
  • Take Care of Our People
  • Ensure Service Control of  Service-Unique Products
  • Organize Service-Focused Productions Units to Meet Service-Unique Needs
  • Leverage State-of-the-Art Technologies
  • Gain Efficiencies
