"Tanker Safety"

Printer Friendly Version
Safety Something YOU can live with!

Tanker Safety Diesel fuel flow from a fuel truck's pump to a mine fuel tank can become blocked if the inlet valve is in a closed position, or if the inner liner of the discharge hose separates. These situations can create higher than normal pressures and high diesel fuel temperature, which can cause the fuel discharge hose to slip off the fitting. In order to minimize these hazards, before offloading begins:
  • Ensure all valves are open.
  • Ensure proper equipment will be used. (Ex: hoses rated for pump-off applications, etc.)
  • Ask your supervisor to explain the safety procedures.
  • Check the condition of the hoses and ensure fittings are connected per manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Ensure the pump is equipped with the manufacturer's recommended safety features (Ex: pressure relief and fluid temperature shutdown, etc.) and operated at the recommended speed.
During Pumping:
  • Monitor the flow indicator, if available.
  • Stand clear of the area where a ruptured hose may spray.
