To contribute to readiness by supporting and improving DoD civilian equal employment opportunity/affirmative employment program (EEO/AEP) and military equal opportunity/affirmative action plan (EO/AAP) goals and objectives. To ensure the efficient management of EEO/AEPs and EO/AAPs to achieve a military force structure and civilian workforce that are reflective of the diversity of the American people, consistent with Federal civil rights laws and regulations and Secretary of Defense policy issuances. To make the DoD a model of EEO/EO programs and accomplishment.

Functions

  • Develop DoD-wide EEO/EO policies and provide oversight of DoD Components' implementation.
  • Monitor EEO/EO progress in the DoD Components through statistical and narrative analysis and make reports to senior executives within DoD, the Congress, and other federal agencies.
  • Oversee general operations and EEO/EO training conducted at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI).
  • Support the Defense Equal Opportunity Council (DEOC) by Developing Civilian and Military Agenda Items and Proposals for Full Staffing and Resolution.
  • Develop Policy for DoD-wide Special Observances and Outreach Programs. Plan and Conduct Pentagon Special Observances and Provide Support for Annual Conferences of Selected National Groups Representing Minorities, Women, and Persons with Disabilities.
  • Represent DoD on the Interagency Committee on Handicapped Employees, the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board, and Other Ad Hoc National Committees or Boards Concerned with Civil Rights.
