Tribal Water Quality: National WebSIM

National WebSIM is a web based tool that allows Tribal users to submit data to the National STORET Data Warehouse. National WebSIM features the new capabilities of WebSIM version 2.0.2. You must sign up to use National WebSIM in order to begin using it.

The purpose of this page is to provide the steps and materials needed to sign up and use National WebSIM. For help or more information please contact the STORET Team either by email (storet@epa.gov) or by phone (1-800-424-9067). For users already signed up, here are quick directions for accessing National WebSIM now:

  • Go to portal.epa.gov
  • Log on to the EPA Portal
  • Once logged on, note the left hand side navigation bar
  • Find the "Tribal Water Quality" Community
  • Click "WebSIM" to access National WebSIM
  • Click "WebSIM Demo" to access a test and training website for WebSIM

Tribes using WebSIM to submit data to the STORET Data Warehouse are highly encouraged to use the STORET Data Template to assist in formatting data in a STORET-compatible format. The template consists of a series of MS Excel worksheets that define the types of information that a data owner must include in order for data to be successfully submitted through WebSIM.

WebSIM Tutorials and Example Files (ZIP 6.3MB)

These two tutorial documents walk users through importing example stations and results files through WebSIM. The WebSIM Demo website provides a demo environment that can be used to walk through these tutorials using the example files. The WebSIM Demo website is also accessible from the EPA Portal. How to sign up to use National WebSIM

Step 1: Provide the following information in an email to the STORET Team. The STORET Team's email address is storet@epa.gov.

Contact Information:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Street Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip Code
  • Phone Number

WebSIM Organization Information:

  • WebSIM Organization ID: (Tribal user chooses this ID which can be up to 8 characters long)
  • WebSIM Organization Name:
Organization Procedures and Methods:
  • Field/Lab Analytical Procedures - Organization-Owned Analytical Procedures, Adopted Nat'l Procedures
  • Sample Collection/Creation Procedures

The STORET Team will use this information to set you up to use National WebSIM.

Step 2: Access National WebSIM through the EPA Portal

After you have emailed this information to the STORET Team, you will receive an email notification from the EPA Portal. This email will tell you that you've been approved to the EPA Portal as well as to the Tribal Water Quality community, meaning that now you have access to National WebSIM inside the EPA Portal.

The email will include your User Name as well as a temporary password that you will be required to change once you've logged into the Portal for the first time. At the time that you log into the Portal, you will automatically have access to the Tribal Water Quality Community and thus to National WebSIM.

To log into the EPA Portal for the first time:

  • Go to portal.epa.gov
  • Enter the User Name and temporary password provided to you by email
  • Follow the directions to change your password and log in

To access National WebSIM:

  • If you are not logged into Portal, log on
  • Once logged on, note the left hand side navigation bar
  • Find the "Tribal Water Quality" Community
  • Click "WebSIM" to access National WebSIM
  • Click "WebSIM Demo" to access a test and training website for WebSIM
