Sample GOES Image Products

The table of images just below show the geographical coverages routinely covered by the GOES-East and GOES-West satellites. Clicking on each geographic region of interest will reveal the scheduled times each coverage is available. Additional imagery may be possible over smaller areas where severe or threatening conditions were occurring.

Custom GOES hardcopy imagery from NCDC are provided as 8x10 glossy prints. The following table of images below depict the amount of geographical coverage that will fit into a 600 line x 800 row digital image, at varying spatial resolutions. A 600x800 digital image, when printed, will fill an 8x10 print with a small margin around the image.

Map overlays are provided on all NCDC GOES image products. Latitude-Longitude gridding at specified intervals can also be provided in various colors. Standard satellite map projections include a high resolution Continental United States map, medium resolution Western Hemisphere map, and a low resolution map of the world. NCDC can provide remapped GOES imagery in Mercator, Lambert-conformal, or Polar Stereographic map projections. The following table of images depicts the mapping options that are available.

Many NESDIS developed infrared enhancement curves can be applied to GOES imagery. These curves are discussed in the GOES User's Guide and are also listed in this directory. NCDC has also developed colorized enhancement curves for both infrared and water vapor GOES imagery. Example imagery are provided below. Color vs. Temperature scales for these three curves are shown below each image, which can be placed onto the imagery upon request.

Specialized GOES imagery, to suit the specific needs of our customers, includes the following.

• Annotated locations with dots or arrows
• Annotated airports with FAA 3-letter call sign
• Temperature contours (IR imagery)
• GOES-EAST/WEST Composites. (Imagery from two GOES satellites are seamed together to provide large scale coverage)

In some cases, we will work with the customer, on a case by case basis, for additional image enhancements.
