Steven L. Solomon, MD, currently serves as the director of the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Service. He received his MD from Tufts University and is board-certified in internal medicine, preventive medicine, and infectious diseases. He was in the private practice of internal medicine and infectious diseases before joining the Epidemic Intelligence Service at CDC in 1981.

From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Solomon served as chair of the Patient Safety Task Force of the Department of Health and Human Services. His clinical appointment is at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He served as acting director of CDC's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion from 2002 to 2003, at which time he became CDC′s associate director for Health Systems. In 2004, Dr. Solomon was appointed acting director of CDC's new National Center for Health Marketing. He was selected to his current position in September 2005.

He has held several positions at CDC developing, conducting, and directing collaborative research and demonstration programs with academic institutions, hospitals and health systems, and state and local health departments.

Doctor Solomon has recently focused on health systems research and using information technology to evaluate and improve health services. He has represented CDC on expert panels for a number of national organizations.
