Abstract
Preparing a concise, well written request for proposal (RFP) is a key requirement for design and construction professionals. The Committee on Specifications of the Construction Institute has written Preparing Requests for Proposals and Specifications for Design-Build Projects as a guide for professionals and project owners. This publication explains in detail the key steps in writing a request for proposal. Topics discussed include: an overview of RFPs and their role in design-build projects; various approaches to project contracts, including projects not suited for design-build; the definition and vision for the project; a detailed chapter on writing the actual proposal, including qualifications and technical considerations; an explanation of general contract terms and conditions; and a final chapter detailing unusual and specific contract specifications. This title includes appendixes with sample requests for technical criteria and project specifications. This publication will be invaluable for anyone involved with RFPs in construction engineering.
