Director, Information Technology Services Office

As director of CDC´s Information Technology Services Office (ITSO), Judy Kenny oversees IT infrastructure. Her areas of responsibility are desktop computing support, directory services, email, helpdesk, infrastructure software, IT security, networking, data center services, office automation, remote access, server management, video conferencing, and telecommunications. ITSO utilizes over 200 Federal employees and over 300 contractors. During her time there, ITSO has become involved in global activities with the Office of Global Health as part of the Global Disease Detection Initiative.

She came to CDC in 1971 as a clerk stenographer in the Immunization Program. A few years later, she accepted a position as a computer trainee. She subsequently received a BBA degree, a master′s in public administration, and an MS in computer information systems from Georgia State University. Ms. Kenny left CDC in 1979 and spent eight years in the private sector, working for several software vendors: SAGA Software, American Software, and HBO & Company. She worked in various management and technical capacities including performance measurement and capacity planning, application development, database administration, and technical support.

In 1987, Ms. Kenny returned to CDC as the Chief of the Information Services (IS) Office, Office of the Director, National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention. In 1995, she went to Information Resources Management Office (IRMO) as the Chief of the Management Information Systems Branch. She remained in IRMO until becoming the Acting Director—and then Director—of ITSO.

Ms. Kenny has been married for four years to Ron Utterback and has one daughter and two stepsons.
