Research in the Diabetes Unit of NCCAM falls into three major interrelated categories: Discovery, CAM Applications, and Clinical Research. Discovery focuses on molecular mechanisms of insulin signaling as well as metabolic and vascular physiology of insulin actions. CAM Applications targets nutritional supplements and other CAM modalities. Clinical Research integrates Discovery and CAM Applications to study effects of various CAM modalities on human pathophysiology related to metabolism and vascular function.
