2009 Nanotechnology-Enabled Sensing Workshop
The NNI-sponsored Workshop on Nanotechnology-Enabled Sensing is part of a series sponsored by NNI participating Federal agencies. The workshop was held May 5-7, 2009 at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Leading experts assessed the nanotechnology research community’s long-term goals and key challenges in the area of sensing.
NIH Nanoweek 2009
A series of nanotechnology events was held on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland from April 7-10, 2009. On Tuesday, April 7th, leading researchers introduced basic concepts and medical applications. Wednesday included presentations and lab demonstrations by NIH scientists, and on Thursday and Friday, a joint IEEE/NIH workshop was held on nanomedicine. NNI Response to NRC Report
On December 10, 2008, Federal agencies participating in the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) received a highly anticipated National Research Council (NRC) early release review of the NNI interagency Strategy for Nanotechnology-Related Environmental,Health, and Safety (EHS) Research (published in February 2008). NNI member agencies noted the report’s substantial and important recommendations for further progress on EHS research. However, the NRC evaluation did not recognize the breadth and depth of the NNI commitment to EHS research. On February 13, 2009, the NNCO released a statement along with its January 5, 2009, letter to the NRC providing detailed comments on the report.
