COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to combine classroom instruction and hands-on techniques to teach participants a comprehensive approach to manage the insensitive foot.

UPON COMPLETION, THE PARTICIPANT SHOULD:

  • understand the features of diabetic neuropathy;
  • perform a diabetes foot screen, assign risk category, and formulate an appropriate treatment plan;
  • understand the rationale and benefits of a basic prevention program;
  • understand the treatment principles for diabetic foot lesions;
  • understand the etiology of foot ulcerations;
  • identify charcot foot deformities and describe their role in ulcerations;
  • identify the four mechanisms by which patients develop plantar ulcers;
  • identify bony deformities and biomechanical faults which place the patient at high risk;
  • apply a cast or splint used for the treatment of foot ulcerations;
  • describe orthotic and footwear appliances used to reduce foot pressure;
  • correctly measure shoe fit in the high risk individual.

Friday (Casting/Splinting Lab only) - $200.00
3 day Workshop - $325.00
Fees include registration, tuition, box lunch (Friday), break refreshments, instructional materials and DVD.

LODGING/TRANSPORTATION

National Hansen’s Disease Programs at Ochsner Hospital site in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is approximately 20 miles from the Baton Rouge airport and 85 miles from the New Orleans airport. I-12 exit at O’Neal Lane.
There are major hotel accommodations located within 1 to 5 miles of the training facility.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS

Registrants desiring a refund must submit a request in writing, postmarked by January 30, 2009. Full amount will be refunded, minus a $15.00 processing fee.
