Overview
The Health Resources and Services Administration’s
Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr) will host its second
annual All-Advisory Committee Meeting (AACM) on April
21, 2009 to discuss and finalize a joint report on interdisciplinary
education and practice. The AACM will include BHPr’s
four Advisory Committees:
- Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME);
- Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine
and Dentistry (ACTPCMD);
- Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based
Linkages (ACICBL); and
- National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and
Practice (NACNEP).
A steering committee, comprising the advisory committee
chairs, will develop a meeting agenda in the near future.
The advisory committees will also host individual committee
meetings either before or following the AACM. This
meeting is open to the public.
Purpose
The four advisory committees initially met in May of
2008 to discuss common issues including health professions
workforce supply and demand, training, diversity, and
the impact of these issues on access to primary care.
As a result of this meeting, the committees began to
prepare a joint report on interdisciplinary education
and practice. The report utilizes expertise and knowledge
from each of the four advisory committees in their respective
areas of health professions workforce development.
The final report will provide recommendations to the
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services and the Congress on ways in which interdisciplinary
education and practice can be expanded and encouraged
to improve access to quality health care. During the
second AACM, the committees will finalize recommendations
for the joint report as well as discuss and identify
future opportunities for collaboration and receive updates
on BHPr and Departmental priorities.
