aDORe Archive: a modular and standards-based Digital Object Repository

APS content hosting - licensed local archiving of the American Physical Society's entire collection of PDFs and XML data. APS and Los Alamos will use Open Archive Initiative (OAI) protocols to keep the Los Alamos copy synchronized with the APS original version. (article describing the agreement and the technologies involved)

Digital preservation - research and development of tools that will help address complex problems related to collecting, storing and accessing digital materials, supported by a $750,000 grant from the Library of Congress. Further information is available in the Press Release and at the Library of Congress's Digital Preservation website.

E-Science Server at LANL - managing content and delivering electronic journals, conference papers, and standards through a web interface

LinkSeeker - context-sensitive linking between electronic resources, using SFX technology, for quick access to full-text content and more

Mod_oai project - creating a mod_oai software module that will expose content accessible from Apache Web servers via the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). A project of the LANL Research Library and the Computer Science Department of Old Dominion University; funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

 Open Archives Initiative

OpenURL - for interoperability between information resources and linking servers

RSS feeds - creation of RSS feeds of current tables of contents for journals that we archive locally. LANL staff can subscribe via the RSS icon on our Electronic Journal web pages.

Scholarly evaluation metrics - researching the scholarly communication process with a large-scale usage reference data set.

SearchPlus - our flagship interface for cross-searching databases, featuring cited browsing, preferences, search history and more

Visualization tools - We have developed ActiveGraph, which facilitates pattern discovery in bibliographic data sets, making it possible for digital library users to:

  • Analyze citation statistics
  • Collect and annotate papers for individual or group use
  • Explore a list of results returned from a search

ActiveGraph has been implemented in SearchPlus as an interactive scatter plot display of search results.
