The Health Center Program: Recovery Act Grants

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides $2 billion for grants to health centers, an unprecedented opportunity to serve more patients, stimulate new jobs, and meet the significant increase in demand for primary health care services among the Nation's uninsured and underserved populations.

Health centers are community-based and patient-directed organizations with more than 7,000 locations nationwide.

Additional Recovery Act funding opportunities are being developed and will be announced here when available.
New Opportunity: Capital Improvement Program

Due Date: June 2, 2009
Eligibility: Existing health center program grantees only
Purpose: Address pressing capital improvement needs in health centers, such as construction, repair, renovation, and equipment purchases, including health information technology systems

Recovery Act Funding
 

$500 million to

  • support new health center sites and service areas,
  • increase services at existing sites, and
  • support spikes in uninsured populations.

$1.5 billion to

  • support construction, renovation and equipment, including health information technology systems, in health centers and health center controlled networks receiving operating grants under section 330 of the Public Health Service Act.
