Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) for San Bernardino, California

Shows Changes in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) for Sheep Creek

LOMR Effective Date:  August 29, 2008
Area Affected: Sheep Creek, from approximately 200 feet upstream of Smoke Tree Road to approximately 2,000 feet upstream of State Route 138. The affected community is the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County.

Overview/Background

The revised Flood Insurance Rate Map and Flood Insurance Study report for San Bernardino County, California and Incorporated Areas will become effective on August 28, 2008. The August 28 map designates the affected area as a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), the area inundated by the base (1-percent annual chance) flood, based on an approximate analysis. Therefore, the area is designated on the August 28 map as Zone A with no Base Flood Elevations established. It has been determined that the approximate Zone A designation inaccurately represents the current flood hazards for the revision area along Sheep Creek. However, there is no detailed analysis currently available, so this LOMR Case No. 08-09-1595P will re-designate the Zone A as Zone D, an area where flood hazards are undetermined, but may exist. Currently, FEMA is conducting detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses along the revision area. Once these analyses are complete, a LOMR will be issued to reflect the more detailed information along Sheep Creek and LOMR Case No. 08-09-1595P will be superseded.
