The Global Cancer Atlas Online

Cancer is potentially one of the most preventable and curable life-threatening diseases. In 2002, an estimated 11 million people were diagnosed with cancer, and nearly 7 million people died of cancer worldwide. By 2020, more than 16 million new cancer cases and 10 million deaths are expected However, more than 25 million people are surviving for years after a cancer diagnosis.

The Global Cancer Atlas Online contains current and comprehensive statistics and information about the growing global cancer burden. It provides

  • Color maps, graphics and charts that contrast the global cancer burden.

  • Baseline measures, by nation, for tracking cancer around the world.

  • Data on prevention strategies and cancer risk factors.

The Global Cancer Atlas Online is an interactive version of The Cancer Atlas*, published in 2006 by the American Cancer Society*, with support from the CDC, and additional assistance from the International Agency for Research on Cancer*, the World Health Organization* and the International Union Against Cancer*.
