NIAMS ARRA Administrative Supplements for Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators

March 18, 2009

NOT-OD-09-060

The purpose of this program is to encourage students to seriously pursue research careers in the health-related sciences, as well as provide elementary, middle school, high school and community college science educators with short-term research experiences in NIH-funded laboratories. NIAMS strongly supports this initiative.

Areas of Scientific Priority

NIAMS accepts proposals related to its mission of research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases, and the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research.

Funding Priorities

In addition to the restrictions in the NIH Notice, NIAMS has targeted ARRA administrative supplement funds to only certain mechanisms. Please review these carefully prior to submission. NIAMS will only consider supplements to R00, R01, R15, R37, P01, P30, P50, P60, U01, and U54.

Applicants must provide convincing evidence that students or educators are available to fill slots created by the supplemental funds.

Submission Instructions

Instructions for submission are as given in the NIH Notice. All of the requirements specified in the NIH Notice apply to proposals to NIAMS, but please note that the above requirements specified by NIAMS may be more restrictive in some cases.
