The National Library of Medicine (NLM), Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) is hosting the following symposium: The Hazardous Substances Data Bank: Historical Aspects and Future Role as a Toxicology and Environmental Science Resource This half-day symposium will be held on May 6, 2009 from 1:00pm-5:00pm in the NLM Lister Hill Auditorium, Building 38A. A pre-program, meet-and-greet session will take place at 1:00pm in the Lister Hill Lobby. The program will begin at 1:30pm. This event is open to the public. Registration is not required, however, those interested in attending should RSVP to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> The Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB) contains over 5,000 records of information on potentially hazardous chemicals including information on human exposure, industrial hygiene, emergency handling procedures, environmental fate, regulatory requirements, and related areas. HSDB is peer-reviewed by a Scientific Review Panel (SRP), a committee of experts in the major subject areas within the data bank's scope. The symposium is part of the commemoration of the 75th meeting of the SRP. The symposium will include presentations on the history, current use, and an analysis of HSDB data. The symposium will also include a discussion panel of experts from government and non-government organizations to explore future opportunities for HSDB data enhancement.
