              Association (MLA) meeting May 21-26, 2004

The National Library of Medicine's Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) (http://sis.nlm.nih.gov <http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/> ) will feature its toxicology and environmental health resources at the upcoming Medical Library Association (MLA) meeting May 21-26, 2004 in Washington, D.C. (http://www.mlahq.org/am/am2004/index.html <http://www.mlahq.org/am/am2004/index.html> ). Please stop by the NLM booth (#222) for information about our services and a demonstration. Presentations of Division of Specialized Information Services resources will be held at the MLA NLM Theater (Booth 222) as follows: Sunday, May 23 4:00-4:30PM: Your Environment & Your Health: Learn about NLM's environmental health resources including Tox Town, Household Products, and TOXNET. Also learn about resources under development including TOXMAP (Mapping of TRI data) and WISER (PDA application for emergency responders). Monday, May 24 10:00- 10:30AM: NLM handheld products (including introduction of the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders- WISER). 11:30AM- Noon: Your Environment & Your Health Tuesday, May 25 11:00-11:30AM: NLM handheld products Noon-12:30PM: Your Environment & Your Health In addition, a session on "Eco-Power: Taking Back the Environment" will be held on Monday, 5/24/2004, 3:30- 5:00 PM, in the Hemisphere Room: The relationship between the environment and the health of individuals and communities is well established. The most familiar aspects of it include the health of at-risk populations, environmental justice, and promotional programs such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Active Community Environments Initiative (ACES). The relationship between a healthy environment and environmental health is also being affected by geopolitical decisions, including the potential for eco-terrorism. Presenters will examine the role of health information professionals in the new environmentalism.
