For over 60 years, the safe and effective use of community water fluoridation has helped millions of Americans enjoy the benefits of healthier teeth and better oral health. Poor oral health affects everyone: it causes children to lose school days; it causes parents to miss workdays; it causes insurance costs to go up.

To promote the role of community water fluoridation programs in contributing to improved oral health, CDC-TV has released a new video, "Go With the Flow" in its "Health Matters" series.

In the United States, community water fluoridation is not available to approximately one-third (or 100 million Americans) of the population. Using examples from Arkansas, where about two-thirds of the state is on fluoridated water systems, the video features interviews with dentists, public health officials, insurance executives, and parents who speak to the difference community water fluoridation has made in their state and their lives and why it is important to support community water fluoridation initiatives. Economic analysis found that every $1 invested in fluoridation yields nearly a $38 savings in dental costs. Fluoridation protects teeth when delivered through the water supply to children during the tooth forming years and for all ages throughout life.
