It is a peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. LactMed includes information on the levels of such substances in breast milk and infant blood, and the possible adverse effects in the nursing infant. It provides statements of the American Academy of Pediatrics concerning a drug's compatibility with breastfeeding and suggested therapeutic alternatives to those drugs where appropriate.
