Getting to Denver Federal Center
Location and Hours
Our hours and building location vary depending on the type of research you're doing.
- As a center for historical and genealogical research, we have both an Archival and Microfilm Research Room.

Microfilm Research (including genealogy-related microfilm)

Getting to Denver Federal Center
Our building location varies depending on the type of research you're doing.
The facility is about 7 miles west of downtown Denver and about 35 miles west-southwest of Denver International Airport.
By Car from Denver International Airport
Take Peña Boulevard, the only exit road from the airport to I-70 West. Pass I-225 and proceed to I-25 South toward Colorado Springs (accessible from the far right lane.) Take the exit for U.S. Highway 6 West/West 6th Ave. Pass Federal, Sheridan, and Wadsworth, and exit south onto Kipling. The Denver Federal Center is on the southwest side of the intersection. Go past one traffic light and turn west to Gate 1. A photo ID (driver's license) is required to enter.
Once you are at the Denver Federal Records Center, we are located at Fifth & North Street.
- Take Main Street to Fifth
- Go north on Fifth to just before North Avenue
- Inside the Denver Federal Center Grounds
By Car from Downtown Denver
Take Broadway south to Eighth Avenue; Eighth west to Kalamath Street; Kalamath south to U.S. Highway 6 (West Sixth Avenue); U.S. Highway 6 west about 5 miles to Kipling Street. The facility is at West Sixth Avenue and Kipling Street. Go south on Kipling 1/2 mile to Gate 1 of the Denver Federal Center. A photo ID (driver's license) is required to enter.
Once you are at the Denver Federal Records Center, we are located at Fifth & North Street.

By Public Transportation

From Denver International Airport, a commercial shuttle bus on the upper level transports travelers to the Denver Federal Center and to local hotels.
Inside the Denver Federal Center Grounds
We are located in Buildings 46 and 48 of the Denver Federal Center.
- The Center is a mile square campus located on the southwest corner of 6th Avenue and Kipling Street.
- The main entrance is on the west side of Kipling, just north of Alameda Avenue.
- Visitors must present a picture identification card to the guard at the entrance to the Denver Federal Center.
- Visitors, their automobiles, and their belongings are subject to being scanned and searched.
- Visitor parking areas are northwest and east of Building 48.

Building 48, the main building, is the last building on the right. Use the north entrance.
- Building 46, for microfilm research, is directly behind and to the south of Building 48, at Fifth Street and Center Avenue.
