Application Deadline Nears For Illinois Disaster Assistance

Rock Island, IL -- Residents of Illinois who have not yet applied for federal disaster assistance have only one more month to apply. July 9 is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.
Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi and State Coordinating Officer Mike Chamness urge those who have not done so to apply as soon as possible by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Hearing or speech-impaired persons may call the TTY registration line at 1-800-462-7585.
Renters, homeowners or business owners who live or have businesses in one of the 10 of counties President Bush declared a federal disaster area on May 9 may be eligible for disaster aid for damage or loss from the flooding of April and May. The 10 counties are Adams, Calhoun, Carroll, Hancock, Henderson, Joe Daviess, Mercer, Pike, Rock Island and Whiteside.
Applicants may qualify for assistance under several federal and state programs such as disaster housing assistance, grants to meet disaster-related needs, or U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans. SBA loan applications must be completed and returned to SBA by July 9, 2001. Businesses applying for Economic Injury Disaster Loans have until February 11, 2002 to submit an application.
