West Salem, WI -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Wisconsin residents and businesses following the recent storms and flooding. The following information is a summary of the ongoing recovery efforts to date.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Registrations

The major disaster declaration made 13 counties eligible for the Individual Assistance program. A total of 775 individuals in those designated counties have applied with FEMA for disaster assistance. Below is a county--by--county breakdown of registrations.

DISASTER HOUSING

The Disaster Housing Assistance Program helps people who cannot or should not live in their homes because of damage or other disaster--related reasons. The purpose of the program is to make sure people have a safe place to live until their homes can be repaired.

INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY GRANT PROGRAM (IFG)

The IFG program provide funds for the necessary expenses and serious needs of disaster victims, which cannot be met through other forms of disaster assistance or through other means such as insurance. Eligible categories include real and personal property, medical, dental, funeral and transportation.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

The major disaster declaration made 17 counties eligible for the public assistance program. To date, 239 requests for public assistance have been received. The program provides funds to eligible municipalities, public agencies and qualified private non--profit organizations for approved costs of debris removal, emergency protective measures, road repairs, repair of water control facilities and restoration of buildings, utilities, and recreational facilities. U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (SBA) is the primary source of federal funds for long--term disaster recovery for owners of private property, including homeowners, renters, non--farm businesses of all sizes and private non--profit organizations. These low--interest disaster loans cover costs of repair or replacement of damaged real estate, personal property and business assets not fully covered by insurance or other aid.

The SBA has approved 60 loans, for a total of $1,043,500. The breakdown, by loan type, is as follows:
