Regional Interagency Levee Task Force Sets Media Opportunity for Oct. 23 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and other federal and state agencies will conduct the third meeting of an Interagency Levee Task Force (ILTF) on Oct. 23 at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources building in Springfield, Ill., to include a media opportunity.
Interested media are invited to meet with task force federal and state officials at approximately 12:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Illinois Department of Natural Resource building, One Natural Resources Way, Springfield, to discuss the task force and its initiatives.
The purpose of the ILTF is to establish a collaborative regional interagency approach to long-term restoration of floodplain management systems damaged by the Midwest Floods of June 2008. Flood risk management is a shared responsibility and partnership among federal, state and local government agencies, local authorities and private landowners.
The working meeting will discuss the current operational activities of the Interagency Levee Work Groups at the five Joint Field Offices, located within the states affected by the Midwest floods of June 2008, such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The interagency group will continue the open dialogue that has been established with the states and participating agencies, and share concerns and issues relative to flood risk management.
