FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers Remain Open

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Though recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will no longer be available in the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) centers in Porter and LaPorte counties after 8 p.m. today, three temporary disaster recovery centers will remain in operation in Lake County until further notice.
Federal officials urge residents in designated counties who suffered damage or loss in September storms and flooding to apply for assistance as soon as possible. The process begins with a toll-free call to 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 (for the speech or hearing-impaired). Application for assistance can also be made online at www.FEMA.gov. Phone lines and online access are available all day, every day, until further notice.
After applying for disaster assistance, individuals may visit any of the locations listed to check on the status of their applications, get information on assistance programs and services available to disaster victims and to learn about cost-effective repair and rebuilding techniques to reduce future disaster damage.

Though FEMA disaster recovery specialists will no longer be available at the Family and Social Service Administration centers in LaPorte and Porter counties after today, information on application status and/or available assistance programs and services is always a toll-free phone call away at 1-800-621-3362. Residents of those counties are also welcome to visit any of the centers listed to meet face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists.
