Final Week to Apply For Disaster Assistance

Madison, Wis. -- This is the final week for Wisconsin residents to register for disaster help. A simple phone call or online visit can qualify a household or business for recovery money and services from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and other agencies.
Administrator Johnnie Smith of Wisconsin Emergency Management says the last day to register is Monday, September 15, 2008.
"After Monday, the three month application period will be closed," said Smith. "Anyone whose property was damaged because of the storms in June and July and who has not yet registered should sign up now with FEMA."
Individuals and business owners can register for help online at www.fema.gov. A toll-free helpline is also available to register applicants. Call 1-800-621-3362. Those with hearing or speech impairment can dial (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. Both lines operate daily between
6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Residents in the following 30 counties can register for assistance: Adams, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Monroe, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
